New bookstore hours will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Got questions about the bookstore renovation and repurposing? See frequently asked questions below or pick up an FAQ sheet in the bookstore.
Q: Are we closing the bookstore?
A: No. The bookstore is going to be refocused so we are better able to partner with our ministries to provide the best tools for personal spiritual growth and development. It will continue to resource community groups. Selections of spiritual growth resources will be available for purchase in the bookstore or available to check out from the library (which will be accessible from the bookstore eventually).
Q: Are we substituting the bookstore for a cafe?
A: No. We are enhancing the bookstore with a café to align with current trends. We know we have a lack of comfortable, friendly, easily accessible spaces for people to meet for mentoring and bible study. The Connection Cafe was originally designed to meet this need, but it is often unavailable since it is so popular for group events. The bookstore will create a great gathering place to connect with others, look for resources to grow in your faith or just relax.
Q: Why are we downsizing the bookstore?
A: With all the competition from on-line retailers and ebooks it has been hard to break even, and in the last three years we’ve lost money. In fact, many churches with bookstores have downsized for the same reason.
Q: What will we offer in the bookstore?
A: We want to ensure we can continue to provide essential resources like Bibles, studies and current resources to help people grow as followers of Jesus.
Q: How will the bookstore space be utilized?
A: The current bookstore will be divided into two spaces. It will be one of the first stops for people who are learning more about PV and deciding whether it will be their church home. Next Steps classes like Discover PV, Membership, Discover Your Design and Discover Your Mission and spiritual growth study courses will be offered in a convenient meeting space. The new bookstore will also be more conducive to ministry follow up.
Q: Are we closing the library?
A: We are not closing the library. We are moving it to a more prominent location with a larger space. While we have loyal library patrons, many in our church never venture downstairs, so they are unfamiliar with this resource.
Q: Why are we moving it?
A: We are moving the library to not only increase access and visibility for our members, but we also want to create a premiere children’s ministry area that is a fun and unique learning environment to better serve children and their families. (This move could be several months in the future.)
