At Pleasant Valley, we think it’s pretty great when kids encounter Jesus and discover his love for them. We are excited about partnering with parents to teach kids all about God and seeing kids develop into young followers of Jesus. We’ve designed our programs so that kids can have fun with others their age while also learning Bible stories and participating in age-appropriate music and games led by committed, loving church volunteers.

Babies and 2-year-olds will find plenty of space for their very first “Community Groups.” We believe the youngest baby can learn about Jesus by experiencing His love through caring adults. Two-year-olds begin to experience some structure with a lesson time. Our nursery is staffed by volunteers who serve out of their love for Jesus and babies. The nursery is located at the east entrance of our building, and specific room information is available at the Kids Connection information booth in the main east foyer.

Pagers are given to parents in case they need to be contacted during the service, and parents receive a security card at sign-in so that the only person who can pick up a child is the one with the security card that matches the child’s number on his/her name tag.

For parents who aren’t quite ready to leave their child in the nursery, there is a “parent room” available where the worship service can be viewed on a TV monitor. Adjacent to the parent room is a nursing room.

For more information, Patty Sinnett.

Preschool groups for children ages 3 through 5 learn about their “best friend Jesus” and begin learning Bible stories with activities that reinforce their lessons. They also have a special music time that they just love!

Cross Street – for grades K-5 – is starting a new curriculum series, The Gospel Project for Kids, that we’re really excited about! The Gospel Project for Kids is a Christ-centered Bible study resource that follows a chronological timeline of Bible events—presenting the story of redemption through Jesus like kids have never seen it before! Each week, these stories come to life through video, music, activities, and more.  Over a three-year plan of study, each session immerses kids in the gospel through every story, theological concept and call to missions from Genesis to Revelation. For more information, contact Melissa Hardin at 816.781.5959 x217.

Special Friends is a ministry for children who have physical and/or developmental challenges. Volunteers work one on one with children within Kids Connection to give them the best experience possible for learning about God’s love for them. This ministry is available during the Sunday 11 a.m. service after a volunteer has been identified and matched with your child. For more information, contact Carol McClure at 816.781.5959 x226.

Awana is a scripture memory program for kids. The acronym Awana comes from the first letters of the phrase: Approved workmen are not ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15). It will be available 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday nights September through April.

Each age group has a “club.” Cubbies are for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds whose parents are serving either in Awana or another Wednesday night ministry. Children must have reached the age of 3 by July 31 and must be completely potty trained.

Sparks are for kindergartners through 2nd graders. Truth & Training is for 3rd through 6th graders. Trek/Journey is for 7th-12th graders.

If you are interested in making a difference in the life a child through volunteering in the Awana ministry, contact Kim Wilson at 816.903.4300.

As a parent of a Cross Street kid, these resources will help you ask probing questions about each week’s lessons and continue building these Biblical truths within your own home.

Our Kids Connection Learning Center preschool was named one of the Best in the Northland in 2012!

At PV’s Kids Connection Learning Center, our goal is to do more than furnish a place for the physical care for your child. We want to provide a safe and loving environment where your child can be exposed to all areas of development: social, emotional, physical and intellectual. Through the use of Christian-based activities, we lay the foundations for trust, independence and initiative. We want your child’s first “school” experience to be a positive one.

Additional benefits of our preschool include:

  • Small class sizes with excellent child/teacher ratios that exceed state requirements.
  • Qualified, loving teachers who will provide learning experiences that meet the developmental needs of your young child.
  • A consistent daily schedule for the 2-year-old and older classes includes exploration time, skill learning time, craft time, music, physical education and rest time.

The preschool is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays August to May. To enroll, or for more information, contact KCLC director Karyn Chastain at 816.781.5959, x215

All volunteers who work with PV children’s ministries are church members or regular attendees and have undergone background checks.
